The surface of Mars is no stranger to holes and odd formations but they can usually be easily explained. In the case of this new hole however, it’s a bit of a different story.

The deep pit measures hundreds of meters in diameter and has proven to be a real mystery. The usual suspect for large holes is meteor impact craters or volcanic activity. Both of these don’t fit for this particular formation.

So who knows whether this thing was made above or below but it’s certain the boffins at NASA are going to be looking over this hole for a while to come.
