Near the planets South Pole region NASA has photographed what appears to be a strange circular object using the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The region is covered in what can be described as lizard skin like rock formations surrounding a circular object.

NASA went on to explain that this may possibly be from an impact and that the strange rock formations may be from weather effects. “Craters in icy terrain are modified by processes that flatten and change them in such a manner that it is hard to say for sure if it had an impact origin,” NASA notes.

That said, NASA has no definitive explanation of why this formation exists and how it got it there.
