The creature of Shershah market was a joke a few weeks ago. Serious people were doing serious reporting in the area, telling the world that something strange was going on. That something was there. A creature had been seen throughout the busy market, small but verified glimpses throughout the area. Then it started taking livestock to the outer reaches and leaving the corpses for dead.
No one took it seriously. Hell, I got a whiff of the story and didn’t move on it either.
There were lots Chupacabra in Pakistan jokes. An unfortunate amount of dismissal. Regardless of what the rest of us thought, it seems the creature didn’t care. It’s still there and it’s starting to scare people.
Let’s start off by assuming you know nothing about this. The Shershah market is a kabari, or scrap market, in Karachi, Pakistan. It is by far the largest such market in the country and people from all over the country come to the find parts and pieces they need. The kabari is an incredibly important part of the local economy.
Many of the goods being sold there are big, heavy pieces. Not something a vendor can bring back and forth from home every day. There’s also been a good measure of violence over the years which can’t be ignored. In an effort to reduce theft and danger, the market vendors hire watchmen to patrol the market during the day and night, looking out for unwanted activity.
During a feature story a SAMAA reporter went to the market to talk to the watchmen about the creature of Shershah market and they’re telling people to take this seriously.
Unless you speak Arabic this won’t be terribly useful to you but you can find a copy of the video here.
In the story they speak with watchmen who say the creature has been clearly seen several times now. They describe it as being between 5 and 6 feet tall with dog-like features while still standing and moving like a man. It has thick black fur and piercing red eyes.
They’re reporting that the creature continues to stalk around the market and has stolen several goats from the surrounding food markets. Thankfully, no human has been hurt yet but the dollar value for some of these vendors is real. And with people staying away from the market from fear of the creature, it could pose a real problem.
Historically speaking, the Karachi area isn’t known for many Cryptic sightings but it could certainly be something that’s migrated or something we’ve never heard of before.
Either way, it doesn’t sound like a big dog and it’s something we need to take more seriously before the creature of Shershah market does more damage.
